• A licensee must immediately notify a parent or emergency contact if, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, the child (a) becomes ill or is injured.(1.1) In the case of a licensee who provides a care program described as Child-minding, the parent to be notified under subsection (1) is the parent who is on the premises on which the child-minding service operates.

  Observation. Parents were not notified immediately following a child's inury while in care.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a sharp knife located in a drawer accessible to children in the 3-5 program. The Manager removed the knife while licensing was on site.

  Corrective action. Ensure children do not have access to any object that may be hazardous to their health or safety.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. The Manager stated an emergency drill had been completed, however a written record was not available.

  Corrective action. Ensure that current records of practiced emergency drills are available.

• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed the permission to administer medication forms in all programs and observed the following: -Forms were incomplete without the name of the medication. -not all forms contained specific amount -not all forms contained a specific time or symptom to administer -there were medications in the medication bin that did not have a medication form completed.

  Corrective action. Ensure that the medication provided by the parent is administered in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent.
