• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Door handle to the back room was not secure and fell to the floor when used - Walls and baseboards were in disrepair and had holes that are unable to be easily cleaned - Areas of the facility were unclean, including walls, doors, and cupboards

  Corrective action. The licensee said the handle will be secured and the cleaning/disrepair will be addressed.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

  Observation. Water temperature measured 61.4 degrees celsius.

  Corrective action. Licensee said temperature will be adjusted.

• OR SUPERVISION

  A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.

  Observation. Licensee was observed to have a child on the change table and leave the bathroom to enter the kitchen.

  Corrective action. Licensee said children will be supervised at all times during diaper changes.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. A minimum of two character references were not obtained for one or more employees.

  Corrective action. Licensee said they will be obtained.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one or more employees.

  Corrective action. Licensee said immunization status will be obtained.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Certificate verification was not completed for an employee.

  Corrective action. Licensee said verification will be obtained.

  Observation. The sink used by the children measured at 53.3 degrees Celsius

  Corrective action. Licensee stated she would install a regulator to keep the temperature below 49 degrees Celsius

  Observation. Licensing observed that the following areas of the facility were unclean: light switches, cupboards in the kitchen and bathroom, base boards, and some lower areas of walls.

  Corrective action. Ensure the community care facility and the furniture, equipment, and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.
