A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The change pad in the Group Child Care (under 36 months) and some of the bed mats in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) have exposed foam making these items difficult to sanitize.
Corrective action. The manager said she will buy and new change pad and will ensure the beds do not have exposed foam.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation. One toilet in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) has a piece of sharp plastic on a hinge where the toilet lid has been removed.
Corrective action. The manager will ensure children do not have access to the sharp plastic.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. The fire extinguisher has not been serviced in the past 12 months and there is not enough food and water for all children for up to 72 hours.
Corrective action. The manager said she will take the fire extinguisher to be serviced and will add more supplies to the emergency kit.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. A site specific criminal record check was not obtained for one substitute teacher before they started work.
Corrective action. The manager will ensure all staff have a site specific criminal record check before any staff start working at the facility.

This is a repeat contravention to inspection #JDOO- CNSRP3. During the inspection, a staff had moved the products to a higher shelf.

In the IT room, licensing observed that fire drills have not been practiced in April and May. The Manager was not able to provide the emergency drill record.
