  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. The child proof lock on the freezer in the nap room is broken. There is a risk of children opening the freezer. Cleaning products and ant spray under the kitchen sink are accessible to children. The ant spray was removed during this inspection. A toy car battery was accessible to children in the backyard. This was removed during the inspection.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that children do not have access to any of the noted items.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. There are not enough emergency supplies for 8 children for up to 72 hours and food in the emergency kit has expired.

  Corrective action. the manager will ensure there are enough emergency supplies for all children for up to 72 hours and that all food has a current expiry date.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

  Observation. Files for six children were reviewed. Consent to call emergency medical aid was not available in one file.

  Corrective action. The manger will ensure consent to call emergency medical aid is available in all files.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Files for six children were reviewed. Two files did not have information for an emergency contact and one file did not have contact information for a doctor or medial clinic.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure all children's files contain the required information.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

  Observation. Files for six children were reviewed. The date of enrolment was not recorded in two files.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure the date of enrolment is recorded for all children.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Criminal record checks were not available for the manager and two persons over the age of 12 who live in the home. The manager said she had applied for two of these checks although they have not been received.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that a valid criminal record check is available for all person age 12 and over who live in the home.

  Observation. The evacuation drill had not been recorded

  Corrective action. The Licensee says she practices the evacuation drill with the children but does not record it.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Validation was missing from 2 employee's files

  Corrective action. The Manager will obtain the vailidation for these employees

  Observation. Character refrences were missing from 2 employee's files

  Corrective action. The Manager says she will obtain 2 references for each of the employees file

  Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one or more employees.

  Corrective action. The Manager said she will obtain the employee's immuization status

  Observation. Licensing observed the following; - In the main play area, there were long sheer curtains. The concern is a potential suffocation hazard. - In the bathroom, plastics bags were store at a level accessible to children.

  A licensee must display a copy of the fire drill system in a prominent place in the community care facility.

  Observation. Licensing did not observe the fire drill system posted within the facility. The Manager recalls having it posted but unaware where it has been placed.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a copy of the fire drill system is displayed in a prominent place in the community care facility

  Observation. Licensing observed compliance with monthly fire drill record, although no record of completing the annual emergency drill. The Manager explained that she was unaware that emergency drills also needed to be completed.

  Corrective action. A licensee must keep current records of each (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2)(b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment]

  Observation. During the routine inspection it was noted that the facility did not have enough supplies(some food was expired) to prepare for, mitigate, respond and recover from any emergency.

  Corrective action. Please ensure you have enough emergency supplies to prepare, mitigate, respond and recover from any emergency.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

  Observation. During the routine inspection it was noted that the log of minor incidence has not been updated or maintained. Licensee stated that they communicate via text when children get hurt.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that the log of minor incidents is maintained.

  Observation. During the routine inspection 6 random children's files were reviewed and one child's file was missing a date of enrollment.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete.

  Observation. During the routine inspection it was revealed that the licensee and another adult ordinarily present have an expired CRC. Licensee was not aware the CRC has expired.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all persons ordinarily present have a valid CRC.

  Observation. Upon inspection, the following was observed: - Fridge temperature not maintained between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius. - The nap beds had sheets on them and were piled together.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Upon inspection, the managers name was not posted.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the name of the manager is displayed in a prominent place in the community care facility.

  Observation. Multi-Age CC - Staff to Child Ratio not maintained. (ECE). Upon inspection, the managers ECE certificate was expired.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

  Observation. Upon inspection, 2 children were not signed in and 1 child was not signed out.

  Corrective action. Please ensure there is a record kept showing daily attendance record, indicating for each child whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
