A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed a bleach bottle with bleach solution, comet powder and vim cleaning detergents accessible to the children and an adult sized bicycle leaning up against the fence outside that posed a fall hazard.
Corrective action. The Licensee said she will ensure the cleaning products are inaccessible to the children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed 4 reusable bags beside the children's beds and a bunch of string lights on the floor that posed a strangulation hazard to the children in care.
Corrective action. The Licensee said that she would remove the items.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Licensing was unable to view the fire drill records as they were not in the facility.
Corrective action. The Licensee said that she removed the records from the facility and had not returned them yet.
13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.
Observation. Fire extinguishers had not had a yearly check.
Corrective action. Licensee said that she will either buy a new fire extinguisher or have the current one maintained.
13010 - CCLR s.22(1)(a) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Licensing observed 1 box of granola bars that had expired in the emergency supply kit and no other food was provided.
Corrective action. The Licensee said that she would put food in the emergency kit in the event of an emergency.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. Licensing observed numerous ( 4 or more) arrival and departure times not recorded for children who had been in care.
Corrective action. The Licensee said she will record the children's arrival and departure times.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. Licensing observed 2 children's files to be missing a doctor's name and number.
Corrective action. The Licensee said that she will update the children's files.

Observation. Licensing observed no photographs or digital images of the children in care.
Corrective action. The Licensee said that she did not have a digital image of any of the children in care but will take corrective action.
