Observation. All child registration records were reviewed. One record did not indicate child's gender, while others did not indicate whether or not the child has a family physician and the phone number. The Child Care Licensing Regulation requires this information be recorded for each child to respect each child's dignity and be prepared in the event of a medical emergency. Licensing to receive written confirmation that this contravention has been corrected no later than July 4, 2025.

Observation. Plastic garbage bags were accessible in the bathroom vanity. The bags pose a risk of suffocation. The Child Care Licensing Regulation requires that any products that may be hazardous to children be kept inaccessible. This contravention was corrected during the inspection.

Observation. All current employee files were reviewed. One employee's criminal record clearance letter (CRCL) expired in March 2024 and one employee did not have a CRCL on file. Evidence of reference checks were not found on all files and one statement of an employee's immunization status was not on file. It is a requirement of the Child Care Licensing Regulation Section 19 that all required records be obtained prior to employment in a child care facility.

Observation. Outdoor play space in need of clean up at time of inspection. Daily inspections and clean ups as necessary are required to ensure the safety of all children in care.

Observation. Attendance could not be located at time of inspection. Records of daily attendance have not been kept as required by the Child Care Licensing Regulation. Time of arrival and departure are required to be kept up to date at all times to ensure preparedness in the event of an emergency.

Observation. Cleaning products found to be accessible under bathroom sink in basement. Shelf located in basement boot room requires to be anchored to wall to prevent risk of falling.

Observation. A fire drill record could not be located at time of inspection. A drill must be practiced at minimum, once each month to ensure staff and children are prepared in the event of an emergency. A record of these drills must be kept. THIS CONTRAVENTION WAS IDENTIFIED DURING PREVIOUS TWO INPSECTIONS. A record must be kept indicating that each employee has practiced/reviewed the emergency evacuation plan at least once each year. A record could not be located at time of inspection. THIS CONTRAVENTION WAS IDENTIFIED DURING PREVIOUS TWO INSPECTIONS.

Observation. LO Vermeulen reviewed the staff files located on site. Documents that could not be located include: evidence of checked references, valid first aid certificate and immunization status. All documents required by CCLR 19 and 23 must be obtained prior to employment of staff. THIS CONTRAVENTION WAS IDENTIFIED DURING PREVIOUS TWO INSPECTIONS.

Observation. Records for children enrolled were reviewed at random. Some required information could not be located. All required information must be collected and be on site prior to a child attending. THIS CONTRAVENTION WAS IDENTIFIED DURING PREVIOUS TWO INSPECTIONS.

Observation. LO Vermeulen observed the furnace room to be accessible at time of inspection. This room poses a potential risk to children in care if accessed. Two electrical outlets located in nap rooms and one outlet in downstairs play area were not covered with child-safety covers at time of inspection. Fire extinguishers require inspection.

LO Vermeulen reviewed documentation of an incident that occurred on July 13, 2020 that required medical attention. This incident has not been reported to Licensing as required by CCLR section 55. All reportable incidents (Schedule H) must be reported within 24 hours to Licensing.
