• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the diaper changing mat has a split in it. Licensee contact said that this has happened twice in the past few weeks and is looking for a replacement of which there is a shortage.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the split is protected to prevent any communicable disease.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed the diaper change pad had a split in it, allowing for potential cross contamination.

  Corrective action. Licensee will replace the diaper change pad to ensure a safe and healthy environment.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Licensing observed that there were plastic bags and Lysol wipes accessible to children in the bathroom cupboard. Licensee stated that children are never unsupervised in this space, but there is potential for children to access particularly when only one staff supervising the children.

  Corrective action. Licensee will obtain a lock to ensure secure products.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (d) copies of any diplomas, certificates or other evidence of the person's training and skills.

  Observation. Copies of any diplomas/certificates of the person's training and skills were not available for one staff. Manager was able to provide a copy of the transcript and application to the Registry.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all staff certification is in place.
