A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. During a walk through of the facility it was noted that the following items were accessible to children in care: -mop and bucket -plunger -toilet cleaning brush

Corrective action. Manager states these items will be removed and stored inaccessibly to the children in care

Observation. During a walk through of the washroom designated for the under 36 month group, it was noted that the cupboard located under the sink, next to the step stool was unlocked and this cupboard contains a number of different cleaning supplies that are easily accessible to children in care

Corrective action. Manager will ensure the cupboard will remain locked when not in use or when left unsupervised

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Diaper changing supplies for children attending the 30 m - SA group are located in the hallway where the entrance to the church as well as to the program, along with the cubbies for personal belongings. Staff state that different staff have different practises regarding diapering the older children. Some staff change diapers in the hallway itself, and some use a change mat in the bathroom.

Corrective action. Diaper changing should always be conducted in a dignified manner, and next to a wash basin

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. The following observations were noted during today's inspection: Dishes used for eating are being hand washed in the bathroom sink next to the diaper changing area Single use towel dispenser was empty and one cloth towel was present

Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is maintained at all times

A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,

Observation. Walk through of one washroom revealed the storage of eating utensils under the diaper change area

Corrective action. Please ensure items are stored in a way to ensure the health, safety and dignity is maintained at all times.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Audit of 8 children's files, one file missing emergency contact; Licensee has made note of attempts to obtain this information.

Corrective action. Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. Audit of 6 staff files revealed 4 staff missing Criminal Record Checks completed through the CRRP; Community Police/RCMP checks are present

Corrective action. Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times, and prior to employment
