A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. The following items were noted to not be in good repair and could cause injury to children in care: -stairs and platform of climber are worn, paint chipped, and the exposed wood could cause splinters -picnic table paint is pealing, which could be a health hazard if a child were to ingest the paint chips, as well as cause splinters from the exposed wood
Corrective action. The Manager will make repair to outdoor equipment to ensure the health and safety of the children in care
11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (b) a wash basin.
Observation. During a discussion with the Manager it was noted that the diaper change area had been moved out of the bathroom and across from the bathroom. Licensing observed the practise, and noted that the diaper change area is not next to a wash basin and not in close proximity to the wash basin
Corrective action. Manager will move diaper change area back to the bathroom next to the wash basin
15015 - CCLR s.14(4)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Observation. Audit of 7 children's files, revealed 2 files do not contain signed consent for Manager to call an ambulance/medical practitioner in case of emergency, and parent cannot be immediately reached
Corrective action. Manager will obtain the appropriate consents from all families
19190 - CCLR s.57(3)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. Audit of 7 children's files revealed one file does not contain immunization status
Corrective action. Manager will ensure immunization status/information is noted in the children's files

Observation. Walk through of back yard revealed the following items require addressing: 1. round swing material is severly torn 2. soiled diaper on ground under climber 3. broken/rotten wood surrounding bark mulch presenting splinter and trip hazard
Corrective action. Manager states the swing will be made inaccessible, diaper will be removed, and wood trim will be removed

Observation. Audit of 6 files; one file missing emergency contact name & number; one file missing contact number for emergency contact's.
Corrective action. Manager states they will gather the appropriate information and update children's files

During a walk through of the facility kitchen, the following was noted as unsafe practise: Large sharp kitchen knife located on the edge of the kitchen counter in easy reach of even the smallest child; drawer lock on kitchen drawer containing many sharp knives did not engage permitting access to this drawer
Corrective action. Please ensure children are cared for in a safe and healthy environment

Observation. During file review it was noted that the Licensee/Manager has an expired CRC. The expiration date was May 12, 2019
