    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - The edge of the change mat was covered by tape - The edge along the table were covered by tape

    Corrective action. Manager said that she will replace both the changing mat and the table

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. Consent for administering medication was not observed for one child. This is a repeated contravention to inspection #CLAN-D2UNCL.

    Corrective action. Manager said she will ask the parents to fill out and sign the form.

    Observation. Arrival and departure times were not recorded for several days in January. This is a repeated contravention to inspection #CLAN-CP2QMS

    Corrective action. Manager will ensure to indicate that the child is away on the attendance record.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

    Observation. Two staffs files were reviewed. One staff's certificate was not verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.

    Corrective action. The Licensee said she will verify the staff's certificate using the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Standing water was observed in a planter. The water was dark in colour. This could cause a potential hazard for children and may become an attractant for pests.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to empty water after use to ensure a healthy and safe environment.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following inside the facility: -a diaper mat was ripped Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: -several pieces of fencing were not secured and were deteriorating -several loose pieces of brick were observed

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility and the equipment in the facility is in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -Emergency medication was observed in a child's cubby -Several loose cords were observed in the classroom at the children's level -An electrical outlet next to the sink in the washroom was missing a plug cover

    Corrective action. Please ensure to store emergency medication out of reach of children and secure cords and outlet covers

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed the following inside the facility: -A bottle of vitamins on the counter at the children's level. This was corrected during the inspection. -A blind cord in the washroom was hanging at the children's level. This could present a potential hazard. -The lock to the room where the water heater was located was not applied. This was corrected during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed two slides. The slide in the playroom did not have a 6 feet fall distance around the slide or resilient surfacing under the slide. The slide in the outdoor area was in a specific area with wood chips. The wooded edge of the area with wood chips was within 3 feet of the slide. A six feet fall distance is required around the entire slide. The slide in the outdoor play area was relocated to another area in the play area during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times to the children are in care.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following partially blocking the emergency exit: -a large car -multiple bags of salt -boxes filled with items

    Corrective action. Please ensure supplies and other items are not located in front of or blocking access to the emergency exit in case there is an emergency.
