(Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Of 5 employee files reviewed one file had no record of completed the validation for an updated Early Childhood Educator Certificate.

  Observation. The licensee had obtained the managers file prior to hiring, however this was not available for review at the facility on the day of the inspection.

  Corrective action. The licensee will consider a plan to create a system to ensure all employee records are available for review by licensing, and provide a written response.

  Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed 12 children's files, of those 2 files did not contain a start date.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep for each child a record showing the date of enrolment in the community care facility.

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

  Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed the fire drill records for the past year, the months of July and August had no record of completed fire drills. Staff informed licensing that they had not completed them.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that each employee practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed four employee files, of those one file was missing a copy of a criminal record check.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to have a current criminal record check on file for each person.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. An industrial fan was stored on top of a shelf in an area where children sit on the floor to play, which was not secured, and could easily tip over and fall on a child.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to relocate or secure the fan to prevent falling.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

  Observation. 11 files reviewed. Two children who were present at the time of the inspection had no photograph in the file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to have a photograph or digital image of the child.

  Observation. One staff file contained references, however there was not and record of having checked them.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to obtain the character references, in respect to the person, prior to employing.
