• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed paint chipped on the walls in all the classrooms. In the School age classroom walls have been patched up and were in the process of being painted.

  Corrective action. Staff said that the walls will soon be painted in the entire facility.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher has not been serviced annually.

  Corrective action. Ensure fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

  Observation. Staff was unable to produce the Policies and Procedures. Staff said that at the time of hiring they are provided with the policies and procedures via email. Licensing observed the illness policy was posted outside of each classroom. A physical copy of the polices and procedures was not available at the facility at the time of the inspection.

  Corrective action. Ensure Policies and Procedures are available.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed the attendance records and dates of arrival and departure were missing in two of the programs.

  Corrective action. Ensure attendance records are recorded.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 9 children's files and one child's file was missing a dr's name and ph number.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files and 1 staff file was missing a record of immunization.

  Corrective action. Ensure all staff files are complete.

  A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.

  Observation. Licensing observed that staff in the Out of School Care were on the phone and not actively supervising or enagaging with the children, and the hand washing was not supervised by the staff as the child did not use soap to wash his hands.

  Corrective action. Ensure staff are actively supervising children at all times.
