  Observation. Three rungs of the slide ladder were missing covers at one end, exposing sharp metal edge.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 employee files, the criminal record check for the manager was expired.

  Corrective action. The licensee said they will obtain a new criminal record check today.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 4 employee files, of those one file did not contain record of the Criminal Record Check having been completed. The employee had completed the criminal record check in February, however it had not been available for review during the inspection.

  Corrective action. Licensee will look into the issue and provide written response once they have record.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection licensing reviewed the daily sign in sheet, some children had not been signed in for November 8, 2023, which was corrected by the licensee during the inspection.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep for each child a record showing the daily attendance record indicating each day whether the child is absent or if the child is present the time of arrival.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 employee files, of those, one file did not contain record of immunization.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep record that the person has complied with the Provinces immunization program.

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. During the inspection licensing observed: -The emergency evacuation plan had not been practiced -The emergency supplies contained expired food, and had no system for regularly reviewing the emergency supplies to ensure the facility is able to mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

  Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed 8 children's files, of those 2 files were missing parent consent to call an medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

  A licensee must keep (a) a copy of the written statement, referred to in section 19 of the Act, that the licensee delivers to persons who prepay part of the cost of services

  Observation. During the inspection licensing reviewed 8 children's files, of those 2 files did not contain copy of the written statement, referred to in section 19 of the act, that the licensee delivers to the person who prepays part of the cost of services.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that you have record of the written statement signed by the parent.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must have all of the following: (a) emergency exits and a fire drill system approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act.

  Observation. Licensing observed a fire extinguisher on site was due September 10, 2020 for servicing, and is now overdue. Manager stated it would be serviced the next day.

  Corrective action. Please ensure fire extinguishers are maintained yearly.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep, for each child, the medical insurance plan number.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep a record of the Doctor's phone number.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

  Observation. 1 employee file reviewed was missing Early Childhood Education Certificate Validation.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep on file, a record of the verification of each Early Childhood Educator or Early Childhood Education Assistant.
