The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]
Observation. During the inspection of the outdoor play structure, Licensing observed low levels of woodchips, the loose-fill material required to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a fall. There is currently no barrier to keep the woodchips contained, which allows them to move outside the intended area. Given the height of the play structure, the loose-fill material is required to be maintained at a minimum depth of six inches to provide adequate protection. The deficit of woodchips, caused by the lack of containment, increases the risk of injury, as replacement and raking are less effective when the material easily leaves the designated area. Licensing also noted areas of wood deterioration, including wood stumps and the base of the wooden climbing wall with climbing holders.
