  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was noted: -Soap and water spray bottle was not labelled. -Walkway leading to grass area, there is a portion of concrete where it is broken up and is a tripping hazard. Manager placed a piece of plywood over top of the concrete which will work as a temporary solution until a more permanent solution is provided.

    Corrective action. Manager stated that they would label the spray bottle and will come up with a solution for the walkway. Please provide Licensing with an update as to how the walkway will be corrected on or before July 25, 2024

    A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.

    Observation. Facility had been only practicing earthquake drill where the children hide under the table one time per year. Manager was not aware that the Emergency drill in which they practice walking to the Emergency location needed to be practiced one time per year but rather once every 3 years. Discussion had with the Manager about the intent of Emergency drill and updating log forms and the requirement of practising drill yearly. .

    Corrective action. Manager stated that they would practice the emergency drill in the coming weeks.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the children had access to water beads which are not age or developmentally appropriate.

    Observation. Licensing observed: - The door mat at the entrance is curled up and is posing a tripping hazard. - There is a large board covering the stove which is not secured to the stove and may fall on a child. - There is a plywood board in the outdoor play space which is splintered. - A metal rod was observed in the overgrowth in the outdoor play space - Dirty cleaning cloth was observed accessible to children in care. -Licensing observed that a child's bed was set up in the hallway outside of the naproom (repeat contravention)

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    Observation. Licensing observed that 6 children were in attendance and only 4 were signed in. Additionally, there were 2 days in August where children were not signed out.

    Corrective action. Ensure an accurate record of attendance is maintained.

    Observation. Licensing observed that a fence has been constructed with out written approval or notice in the facility outdoor play space.

    Observation. The manager informed Licensing that they were away for 2 months. Licensing was not informed of this absence and a replacement plan had not been discussed with Licensing.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -Some children were napping in a hallway by the nap room. Licensing determined there is risk of the children being stepped on in case of an emergency. Suggestions were provided on other areas of the facility that may be used for nap should the space be required. -Licensing noted some personal items not belonging the children in the outdoor play space (sneakers, crocs, backpack). Licensing has reminded the operators that the licensed outdoor play space must be free of any personal items belonging to the operators while the children are in care. -There is a hot tub in the outdoor play space. Licensing was informed previously that the hot tub is not filled/powered up while the children are in care. At the time of inspection, the hot tub was filled with water and was powered up. Licensing notes that the cover of the hot tub was on the time of inspection. -Licensing observed that a child sitting in a high chair was not buckled in. -Licensing observed that there was nothing to dry hands with in the children's washroom. This was noted at the previous routine inspection and the importance of ensuring all supplies required for effective hadnwashing are available immediately to the children. -Licensing observed a drop side crib in the nap room. Licensing has advised the manager to review Health Canada guidelines as drop side cribs can pose a hazard to children using them.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play space: - A large cushion on a swing in the outdoor play space requires repair. - Rotting fruit was observed throughout the outdoor play space. Licensing notes that the outdoor play space has a few trees which bear fruit. -Some amount of construction material still remains in the outdoor play space since the routine inspection. -A space underneath a coach house stairs which currently has some wooden planks stored in it - the space poses an entrapment hazard. -various items of debris scattered throughout the outdoor play space including the space.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided while the children are in care.
