  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Furniture, Equipment and FixturesNon-critical

Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]

Observation. Licensing observed that the sleep mats have torn vinyl covering them, which prevents the mats from being properly cleaned and sanitized. There are also fabric covered mats that should not be used because they cannot be cleaned and sanitized. The Licensee is not currently using the mats, as there are several children not napping during the day, however sleep mats should be available for children in the event that they are needed Licensing also observed that 2 children are sleeping in playpen type equipment. The equipment is described as a travel crib. The travel cribs have many similar features as a playpen (for example they fold up for storage). Licensing advises that any time children are sleeping in playpens, they should be directly supervised (as per Health Canada).

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

    Not free from hazards.

Observation. Licensing observed instances of standing water in the outdoor play area. As discussed during the inspection, standing water creates an environment for bacteria to grow and is hazardous.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

Observation. Inspections of the outdoor play area are not being documented. Licensing discussed some options for how to document

  • STAFFING / Additional criminal record checksNon-critical

All persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present on the premises while children are present are of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for each person. [CCLR Sec 20]
