  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. A door to the storage room was unable to be securely shut and inaccessible to children. The storage room contained toys and equipment that was stored with potential to fall on children. An fruit tree was observed in the play area that is unstable. The Licensee has attempted to put up braces on the tree to prevent movement, however, the tree it able to be moved side to side with the potential to fall. The Licensee said she is going to ensure it is unable to move.

    Corrective action. Ensure that areas intended not for children use are inaccessible to children in care.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. It was observed that children were washing their hands and drying on a material towel in their cubby. Although each child had their own cloth it was not cleaned after each use.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children are using single use towel.

    Observation. Many toys were located inside and outside that were in poor repair, stacked in piles, or on top of shelves with the potential to fall. A conversation was had with the licensee about removing some of the materials and bringing out when the children request to ensure that there is adequate floor space for playing and for the separate sleeping area. It was also discussed to remove broken or damaged toys. -a TV was observed not anchored to anything and was able to be tipped when touched. -walls have chips in the paint with drywall exposed.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times
