A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed the following: - paint is chipped and requires repair directly beside the toilet in the children's washroom - the wall outside the washroom is water damaged and requires repair - the foam cap covering the corner of the fireplace that was placed to prevent injury, has fallen off and has not been replaced - fencing located in the backyard has areas where the ground has eroded and presents entrapment hazards. - the grass area in the back play yard has potholes and is uneven in areas and presents tripping hazards for young children

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The following hazards and substances were located in the facility: - medication was stored on the counter of the facility washroom and was accessible to children - several covers located in the children's nap room had bee removed and replaced with charging plugs for electronic devices. These were at a level accessible to children. - plastic bags were stored and accessible to children in a cupboard in the nap room and under the sink in the children's washroom. - cleaning products were stored under the unlocked sink in the kitchen
Corrective action. Ensure children do not have access to objects or substances that may be a hazard.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Furniture, equipment and fixtures were in disrepair, including: - A light fixture in the ceiling had a panel missing exposing the florescent tubing and fixtures - the filled in pool area located outside the daycare door is overrun with weeds. - a panel located along the bottom of the shed in the outdoor play yard is showing significant wear and water damage.
Corrective action. Ensure the facility is clean and in good repair
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation. - Single use towels were not available for children in the washroom. Wash cloths used for cleaning were hung to dry on the towel rack meant to hold the paper towel rolls. The licensee removed the cloths and hung paper towel rolls during the inspection. - children's tooth brushes were stored in a basket in the washroom with each of the tooth brush heads touching. A hair brush was also located in this basket along with a prescription bottle.
Corrective action. - Ensure children have access to single use towels to dry their hands after hand hygiene - Ensure children's toothbrushes are not stored where they touch each other or with other washroom items.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. A minimum of two character references were not obtained for one of the employees

Observation. A review of staff documents found that the manager and staff member had criminal record checks that had expired earlier in the year.

Observation. A review of the facility file found that a person who is over the age of 12 and normally present at the facility did not have a valid criminal record search on file. The previous Criminal Record search had expired earlier in the year
Corrective action. Ensure all persons over the age of 12 who are normally present at the facility have a valid Criminal Record search on file.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. During inspection of the outdoor play area, it was found that the shed located in the yard had siding that had fallen off and was in need of repair. A broken toy was also found in the yard.
Corrective action. Ensure all furniture, equipment and fixtures are in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation. During review of children's files it was found that one child with severe allergies did not have a care plan outlining a course of action should the child ingest any of the foods they are allergic to. The licensee was able to talk about the medications provided by the parents but there was no plan to follow if the medication was administered.
Corrective action. Ensure each child requiring extra support has a plan in place with the courses of action recommended by health care professionals documented.
