To qualify for employment in a community care facility as a responsible adult, a person must (c) have completed a course, or a combination of courses, of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
Observation. There was no evidence that 20 hours of relevant courses were completed for one staff.
Corrective action. The Manager said that the staff will take the responsible adult course.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The fridge temperature in the Preschool Program measured at 8.9 degrees Celsius.
Corrective action. Please ensure fridge temperature is maintained between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection, Licensing observed: -Knives located in the drawer of the Group Child Care (School Age) Program, was accessible to children. Staff said this is typically stored elsewhere, away from the children. This was corrected during the inspection. -3 outlets were uncovered in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program. Staff said the covers were removed while vacuuming. This was corrected upon inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure a hazardous objects are not accessible to children.

Observation. Upon review of children's medication, one child had expired medication.

The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. Upon review of care plans, it was observed that care plans for 5 children were not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent. The Manager stated she was unaware these need to be reviewed annually and will have these reviewed.
Corrective action. Please ensure to review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support or any personal requested by the parent.
