Observation. The windows require coverings for both temperature regulation as well as privacy. The facility's thermostat controls the whole building and during this visit it was clear that the 3-5 side would have to get much cooler in order to have the IT side's temperature come down. The classroom has direct sunlight for most of the afternoon causing the room to get warm and at times, having sun directly into children and staff's eyes. There is also an issue with privacy. The bathroom door was removed to allow staff to assist children better but now you can see children using the toilet/diapering from the school's outside grounds.

Hazardous objects and substances are inaccessible to children. [CCLR Sec 17]

Observation. With no bathroom door to keep children out, staff advise that toddlers are playing in the toilet and are able to sneak out into main entrance during pick ups and drop offs. Writer would recommend a secondary barrier/gate that would keep children out of the washroom area and away from the entrance.

Features such as small grassy bumps or hills, pathways for a variety of activities, different types of surfaces (grass, sidewalks, sand, smooth, bumpy, etc.) and shaded areas do not appear to have been considered. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

Observation. Outdoor play space is essentially a fenced area that contains sand, with one corner of wood chips. There has been no consideration into making this space a welcoming play environment for infants and toddlers. Older children are able to utilize the school grounds and a neighboring playground however, the IT program needs to be close to the building.
