    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. LO noted the heavy items stored on the cabinets mounted on the walls in the several nap rooms were not secured. LO requested that sleeping mats not to be positioned under the cabinets mounted on the wall. Children should be placed at nap time on mats placed away from furniture that could fell in case of an earthquake.

    Observation. Licensing observed a wide range of materials for indoor use, however there were very limited options for child in the outdoor play area. Manager explained that new materials and equipment for outside had been ordered and would arrive soon

Licensing observed two medication care plans that were incomplete: One asthma care plan does not have accurate information with regards to when medication must be administered One child with a seizure disorder has two medications on site, however the care plan does not identify when and how to administer each medication. Staff informed Licensing that training will be provided to staff along with and updated care plan

    Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

    Observation. Staff were aware they must conduct daily outdoor safety checklist, however a log was not accurately completed and kept for LO to review.

    Employees are of good character, have the personality, ability and temperament necessary to work with children, have the training and experience and demonstrate the skills necessary to carry out the duties assigned. [CCLR Sec 19(2)]

    Observation. LO observed 2 children were kept in a low chair with a secure strap. LO asked staff why the children were sitting strapped in the chair and staff stated that children were waiting for transitioning into group time, as the group returned from outdoors. LO asked staff to allow the children to move freely and provide children with an activity while waiting for group time. LO explained that such guidance is not acceptable as retraining a child for such reason is not permitted. This practice restricted child's movements and does not promote independence.
