• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. Children are not signed in upon arrival. The program commences outside and after about 45 min they are signed in once heading back to the classroom.

  Corrective action. Please ensure children are signed in upon arrival. The Manager said they will bring the attendance record outside.

  Observation. There was no record of last months fire drill.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a record of monthly fire drills.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and observed that evidence of certificate verification was missing from one file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure verification by using the system established by the ECE registry.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.

  Observation. The fire extinguisher requires servicing. This contravention is repeat in nature.

  Corrective action. Please ensure fire extinguishers are serviced on or before the service date.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing conducted an inspection of the physical facility and observed ligh bulbs stored in a bucket under the sink of one of the washrooms used by the children. This is a repeat contravention as it was identified on the last routine inspection. The manager removed the light bulbs from under the sink. Licensing discussed ways to ensure children do not have access to items stored under the sink.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times.

  Observation. The fire extinguisher required servicing in Dec 2019.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced annually.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (f) any medication administered to the child, including the amount and the time at which the medication was administered.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed facility records and observed that the parents did not provide sufficient information on one of the medical consent form to guide staff in what symptoms to look for prior to administering the medication to their child.

  Corrective action. Please ensure sufficient information to guide staff in determining when to administer medication.
