A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Outdoor salt stored in the outdoor play is assessable to the children in care.

Corrective action. Ensure a health a safe environment is provided at all times.

If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. There were no written directions specified by the parent or care plan regarding the administration of medication.

Corrective action. Ensure consent forms with written directions are in place for any child requiring medication.

A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.

Observation. A fridge used to store children's food was observed to not have a thermometer available.

Corrective action. Ensure food is stored effectively and healthy eating is promoted.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. Review of 3 staff files noted immunization status was not obtained for one employee.

Corrective action. Manager will obtain the immunization status and update the employee file.
