  Observation. Licensing observed that staff were not practicing yearly emergency drills.

  Corrective action. Ensure that yearly emergency drills are practiced and recorded.

• A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: a criminal record check for the person

  Observation. Licensing observed that one staff had an expired Criminal Record Check on file.

  Corrective action. Ensure a valid Criminal Record Check is on file for each staff.

  3010 - CCLR 19(1)(a)
• A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a valid certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry

  Observation. Licensing observed that both staff files which were audited did not contain an ECE certificate verification.

  Corrective action. Ensure all ECE's have an ECE certificate verification on file.

  Observation. One child in care was missing a medical insurance number from their file.

• A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees

  Observation. Observation in the outdoor play area indicated that there was a rhubarb plant. The leaves of the rhubarb plant are highly toxic if eaten.

  Corrective action. Ensure that hazardous plants are not accessible to children in care. Action/s Required by Licensing: Follow Up Inspection to be conducted.

• A licensee must operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of person in care

  Observation. A review of the care plan for a child in care indicated a procedure that could put the health of the child at risk by having the staff administer the epi pen prior to calling 911.

  Corrective action. Ensure that the care plan for a child in care would not increase the chance of harm to the child. Action/s Required by Licensing: Follow Up Inspection to be conducted.

• A licensee must immediately notify a parent or emergency contact if, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, the child becomes ill or is injured,

  Observation. A review of the facility minor injury/illnesses log indicated that there had been injuries, including a head injury, where it had not indicated that the parent of the child in care, had been notified immediately or the time not indicated.

  Corrective action. Ensure that the parent of a child in care, involved in a minor injury, is notified immediately and that information documented. Action/s Required by Licensing; Follow Up Inspection to be conducted.
