  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following in the playroom: - A broken outlet cover. - Paint peeling off and exposed wall.

  Corrective action. The Manager will fix and repair the identified items.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. An unlocked cabinet in the bathroom contained Febreze spray that was accessible to children.

  Corrective action. The Manager will lock the cabinet.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. The sign-in/out sheet was reviewed and children were not signed in yesterday and today. Licensing also explained that School Age children must be signed in and out every time they arrive and leave the facility.

  Corrective action. The Manager will ensure children are signed in/out as required.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The play area was inspected and Licensing found three uncovered outlets.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. References were not obtained for 1 staff. Licensing explained that at least 2 references must be obtained and verified by the Manager.

  Corrective action. The Manager will obtain references for the staff.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

  Observation. A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one staff. The Manager said that she will email the staff's resume to Licensing.

  Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.

• A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

  Observation. The facility's minor incident log book was reviewed and not all minor incidents are recorded in the log book.

  Corrective action. The Manager will record all minor incidents in the log book.

• Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

  Observation. On March 8, 2024, staff to child ratio was not maintained.

  Corrective action. The Manager will ensure that the staff to child ratio is maintained at all times.

  Observation. The Manager's name was not posted in a prominent place.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the Manager's name is posted in a prominent place in the facility.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Fire drill records were not available for February and March 2023.

  Corrective action. Please ensure fire drills are practiced and recorded monthly.

  Observation. Fire drill records were available from Jan-Dec 2021 but no records were available for 2022. The Manager said that they are practiced every month but Jan 2022-Mar 2022 were not recorded.

  Corrective action. Please ensure fire drill records are practiced and recorded monthly.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The Manager did not have attendance records available for review and today's attendance was not recorded. The Manager explained she did not know past attendance records needed to be kept on file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure daily attendance is recorded and kept for at least one year.
