A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the outdoor play space has insufficient resilient surfacing.
Corrective action. The licensee said that additional resilient surfacing will be added to ensure the entire outdoor play space is safe.

A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation. Upon inspection the fence appeared to be cracked and unstable in many spots. The Licensee said that a bear had walked through it.
Corrective action. Please ensure the outdoor is enclosed safely.

- HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation. Upon inspection, a child did not have a separate sheet to sleep on that gets washed regularly.Licensee stated that the child sleeps directly on the playpen bottom which poses a sanitation concern.
Corrective action. Please ensure nap system is promoting the rules of health and hygiene.
15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.
Observation. Upon inspecting the fire extinguisher, it had not been serviced in the past 12 months. This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective action. Please ensure the emergency equipment is maintained.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation. Water in the children's bathroom was measured at 50.3c.
Corrective action. Please make sure water is no hotter than 49c. The manager stated she will turn the hot water tank down this evening to reduce the water temperature.

A licensee must have all of the following: (a) emergency exits and a fire drill system approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act.
Observation. The fire extinguisher has not been serviced in the past 12 months.
Corrective action. Please make sure the fire extinguisher is serviced every 12 months.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. The manager stated fire drills take place on a monthly basis but have not been recorded since October 2019.
Corrective action. Please make sure monthly fire drills are recorded.

Observation. Files for 4 children were reviewed. Care card numbers were not available for 3 children.
Corrective action. Please make sure all children have a care card number.
