The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. LO observed the program at the end of the day, cube chairs were stacked on the tables while children were in the room during free play. While there were no children playing near this area, it is concerning that children do not have access to tables and that there is an increased risk of injury.

Observation. There was a notation in the facility log book that outlines a parent requesting that staff call 911 as there was a medical issue over the weekend. Discussion with Manager and staff, that this would require a care plan to be posted and ensure all staff are notified immediately. Staff explained that the child went home that morning and has not returned since. Manager stated that they will ensure a care plan is in place prior to child returning. LO also discussed concern that when a staff was asked about a location for child's (different child) epi pen, the staff stated they were not sure and asked the other staff about it. It is important that all staff are knowledgeable and trained in all aspects of all children's care.

Observation. Licensing observed the following in the adjacent outdoor play space: 1) Ribbon tied around the stair railings that posed a strangulation hazard. Staff stated the ribbon was tied around the railing to prevent children form climbing the railing. 2) The black landscape fabric under the Fibar was sticking out in one place and posed a risk of tripping. Licensing observed the following in the large schoolground play space: 3) Fibar under the swings had dispersed showing the black landscape fabric underneath.

It is recommended to keep emergency consent cards in the childcare room in a place they can be easily retrieved from by all staff.

Observation. Child records were incomplete. Due to upcoming facility closures and in consultation with the school principle a due date of October 25 was established to complete the missing records.

Observation. All staff had expired first aid certificates. They are scheduled to take their first aid training on Pro D day October 22, 2021. Licensing inquired what the plan was from now until October 21, 2021 if a child would be in need of first aid. The program manager stated that they would rely on their current knowledge and that if needed the Kindergarten teacher would assist. The Kindergarten classroom is directly connected to the daycare room by means of a door.
