    The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

    Observation. A short wooden board is installed to block a gap between the metal fence post and wooden fence. The height of this board provides a climbable risk, for children to access the neighboring yard. Staff inform that a work order has been sent in to address this issue, and will provide diligent supervision in the meantime, as all staff are aware.

    Observation. During the inspection, Licensing observed that the Epi-pens and asthma medication were stored on top of the child's cubbies which were in children's reach.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. Observed in small nap room: - Loose lamp cord behind rocking chair , which could pose a risk of entanglement. - Unstable shelf in the back corner of the room, which could pose a hazard. Observed in dramatic play area: - Unsecured picture hanging on wall, which also has a splitting frame on the bottom right corner which could pose a hazard. - Unstable lamp in the corner of the play space, which could pose a hazard.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed that the last entry on the minor injury log was on February 2023. Licensing reminded Educator that it is required to document all injuries and illnesses on the log.

    Observation. *CCFL observed a corner shelf in the nap room with several loose and accessible cords for the light, clock and hepa filter. *The lower cupboard in the children's washroom was unlocked, giving children access to the spill kit and the chemicals contained within it.

    Observation. -CCFL observed some severely rotting stumps throughout the play yard that are now foot entrapment hazards. -The tree cookies on the platform portion of the wooden house have deteriorated in some areas, creating a foot entrapment hazard. -There is a possibility of an entrapment hazard where the chain link fence meets the wooden fence in the far corner. -The stump steps up into the wooden house have 2 nails that are sticking out creating sharp snag points.

    Ground Surfacing: A 1.8 meter (six feet) safety zone is provided around playground equipment. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

    Observation. *CCFL observed a trapeze stretched between 2 trees that has a swing, some handle bars and a ladder. The ladder is of concern because children can climb higher than 5 feet and there is currently no resilient ground cover in the fall zone of this item.

    Observation. *Many of the children's emergency cards did not clearly indicate the emergency contacts that are authorized to pick the chid up. In some cases, only parents were listed, in some others, the emergency cards and registration forms did not list the same emergency contacts.

    Observation. During this routine follow up inspection the Manager showed Licensing the children's bikes. Licensing observed the bikes to be to broken (missing seats) and rusty. The Manager reports that these bikes are not currently in use.
