- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical
The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. Licensee has installed upper shelving (just below the ceiling) around the wall of the bedroom where the children play and nap. She did so to free up floor space for play and storage space within the existing closets. Confirmed my support for innovative storage options. Noted that the shelving was open without a means of containing the items in case of earthquake. Discussed options for doing so, including installing a bungee like cord around the storage boxes to mitigate the falling hazard. Licensee and her husband discussed this and committed to finding a solution asap. The apartment has undergone some upgrades since my last inspection including new vinyl plank flooring and painting.

- NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES / NutritionNon-critical
Instructions in a child's record or care plan respecting food and drink for the child are followed. [CCLR Sec.48(2)]
Observation. In reviewing the children's files noted that two families have indicated their children have significant allergies. Licensee has an epipen for one child but no care plan with the family. I spoke with the other family upon arrival and the parent indicated they had an epipen at home. Discussed the need for an epipen at the daycare to ensure the child's safety just in case she has an anaphylactic reaction. I confirmed with the parent that I would be sending the Licensee a care plan for the Licensee and family to complete.
