  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that, on the premise of the community care facility or in any vehicle used by employees to transport children, (c) no one grows or stores cannabis, except medical cannabis.

    Observation. Licensing noted a strong smell of cannabis in the top floor of the home. The licensee confirmed a member of the household stores and consumes cannabis.

    Corrective action. The licensee said she will ask the member of the household not to store or consume cannabis on premise.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed: - Long blind cords were observed on multiple windows within reach of children in the main play space. - A baby monitor cord was loose and accessible in the children's nap room. The licensee said she does not stay in the nap room the entire nap time and will make it inaccessible moving forward. - Three climbable objects were up against the balcony railing where the licensee confirmed the children play.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed: - Change pad had rips, causing it to not be able to be properly sanitized - Broken hubcap on the deck where children play - Broken ride along toy in the outdoor play space where children play - Bags of recycling and garbage were in the kitchen and on the back balcony accessible to children.

    Corrective action. Ensure the spaces used for providing care are in clean and good repair.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Children are not using single use towels to dry their hands after hand hygiene. This is a repeat contravention

    Corrective action. The licensee put a basket of hand towels in the washroom and said she will ensure the children are using them as single use.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

    Observation. Children were watching TV upon arrival. One of the children was under the age of two. The licensee could not provide a copy of the current screen time policy.

    Corrective action. Ensure a screen time policy has been developed and children under the age of two are not provided with screen time.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - staff change a child's diaper and did not encourage or instruct child to wash hands. - single use towel were not available at the time of the inspection. One towel was available in the bathroom for all 7 children.

    Corrective action. Ensure the rules of health and hygiene are practiced.

    Observation. Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire drill has not been practice for several months in the summer. This is a repeat contravention from 2024.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During the inspection of the outside physical facility and play space, it was observed that a hot water tank was discarde in the playground. A piece of the hot water tank was broken and it had sharp edges. The piece was a part of the hot water tank and it was found a few feet away from the hot water tank. The hot water tank had a some wires sticking out. Licensee said that this is the facilities first day back and she did not notice the hot water tank but that she will call the landlord to remove it. Licensee also said that she has not taken the children out back where the hot water tank was discarded.

    Corrective action. Please maintain a healthy and safe environment.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the routine inspection two children's files were reviewed and it was noted that there was no proof of photo or digital photo of the children. Licensee said that this is the children's first day. Licensee took pictures of the children while licensing was on site.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

    Observation. During the routine inspection licensing reviewed 2 children's files and noted that one of the children's files was missing an MSP number. Licensee said that this is the children's first day in care and she will follow up with the parent regarding the MSP number.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete.

    Observation. Upon inspection licensing noted that the only date marked on the fire drill log was August. Licensee said that they have been practicing the fire drill but she has not marked them down on the fire drill log.

    Corrective action. Please ensure fire drills are practiced and logged.
