    Observation. At nap time on a day in January, a staff told a child to close her eyes and not move, and poked the child in the stomach with her finger.

    Corrective action. Corrective action plan required.

    Observation. A play house was observed to close to the roof top railing/wall posing a potential risk to the children playing in the area. The LO review this in depth at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure the outdoor play area and material are free from hazards.

    Observation. Two programs open on the day of the inspection had children in attendance that were not the correct age for the service type. The LO reviewed the requirements and the Temporary Placement/Retention Application process.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The toilet tank lid on one toilet is broken. The owner has said she ordered a new one and they are expecting it to arrive in November. The crosswalk going from the facility entrance to the lower playground gate is faded and hard to see. The fence surrounding the outdoor lower playground has been damaged and has exposed screws accessible to children and the gate is not able to open easily. The Manager said that the facility does not use this playground.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the furniture, equipment and fixtures are in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The upper playground had no shade cover and climbers were located in direct sunlight. The ground surface in the upper play yard was hot to the touch. Some of the climbers were located within 2 feet of the wall and the Manager moved them away during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure that there is access to sufficient shade coverage and outdoor equipment is not placed in direct sunlight.

    Observation. It was observed in one classroom that the top of the toilet tank is missing. It was observed in the lower outdoor play area that the crosswalk is faded and hard to see, the astro turf is peeling off the cement and there is some garbage located in the area.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the furniture, equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Upon inspection, licensing officers observed a water table being stored in the bathroom next to the toilet. The following was observed in the rooftop playground: -No shade available -The ground surfacing and walls were hot to the touch -The ground surfacing measured at approx. 46.6 degrees. Manager stated that the children did not come outside today. -Play structures and equipment are moveable

    Corrective action. As per Director of Licensing Standard of Practice for active play, please ensure that enough shade is provided to protect children from sunburn and sunstroke. Please provide a plan for how you will ensure the playground is monitored for temperature. Please also ensure the water table is not stored in the bathroom.

    Observation. Upon inspection, licensing observed a child's emergency medication expired in May, 2020. The staff was unaware of where medication and care plans were stored in the program.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all staff are trained on all aspects of program and that there is a system in place to review medications expiry dates.

    Observation. Upon inspection, licensing observed that a care plan was not signed by the parent or dated.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all care plans are written in consultation with families and reviewed annually or when the medication is changed.

    Observation. Upon inspection, licensing observed 1 out of 8 child’s files was missing a photo of the child. Licensing also observed there are children’s photos in the group child care (30 months to SA) that are from when the children were babies.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there is a photograph or digital image of each child that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

    Observation. Upon inspection, licensing looked at four staff files. One staffs criminal record check expired in May 2021 and two staff had criminal record checks that were addressed to different community care facilities.

    Corrective action. Please ensure employees have up to date criminal record checks.

    Observation. Upon inspection, licensing officers looked at four staff files. It was observed that 2 of the staff files were missing immunization records.
