- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; -an airfreshner bottle in one of the bathrooms - a child's medications in their backpack in the cubby. The Manager moved their backpack higher up into a cubby that is out of children's reach. - a staff purses hanging on a hook containing item with chemical in it. The staff moved their purse out of children's reach. - several diaper rash creams and ointments in the diaper change tables.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following; - a tall fan in the nap room. Potential to fall on a child and injure them. - one plastic slide, in the woodchip area, with not sufficient resilient surfacing under it. - one plastic slide with insufficient fall zone clearance. The slide was close to the metal fence and concrete. Potential for a child to fall and injure themselves either on the fence or concrete or both.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed the following; - several area in the woodchip area that the black tarp underlay is exposed. - the green carpet covering outdoor area has curled up in many areas and fraying. Potential for a child to trip on it and injure themselves. - a training toilet seat in one of the group child care (under 36 months) that is dirty and has stains on it.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation. Licensing observed the following; - a tall rack that is not secured - 10 shelves throughout the classrooms that are not secure. Potential to fall on a child and injure them.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. Licensing observed a broken plastic climber. Tape has been used to fix it however, the tape is coming off.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - LICENSING
A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation. Licensing observed that one staff's certificate was not posted anywhere within the facility.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Licensing observed the following in the on wheels emergency bin; - the food has expired - insufficient supplies for all the staff and children for 72 hours. Licensing provided education on what would meet the intent of this regulation.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. Upon a random review of six children's records, Licensing observed that two children's emergency contact information was not obtained.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation. Upon a review of staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's criminal record check (CRC) was not in their record. The Manager had the CRC in an email on their phone. Licensing explained that all facility records are required to be in a single place at the community care facility for Licensing to be able to review.
Corrective action. The Manager will print the CRC off and place it in the staff's record.
19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Upon a random review of four staff files, Licensing observed that references were not obtained for one staff.
Corrective action. A corrective plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
