    Observation. While on site, the following was noted: -Fence to back yard does not have a latch to keep children from accessing the stairs to the daycare. -Wood table leaning up against the fence outside, can act as topple hazard. -2 shelving units not secured to wall, can act as topple hazards.

    A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (c) is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it.

    Observation. Mini Play Pen was being used by a child over one year of age. There was minimal space within the play pen as it was as long as the child. Additionally, one side of the play pen was collapsed, staff indicated that the child may have pushed this side down. Discussion had with staff and Manager about age appropriate sleep equipment and ensuring that the play pen is set up appropriately as per manufacturing instructions.

    Observation. The following was noted: -Some areas where the paint has peeled from the wall, in particular in the smaller play room along the ledges by the duct taped areas. -Fence door and gate at entry are both broken. Staff was using a black hair elastic to lock the gate for the playground which is not considered an appropriate measure for securing the space.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Chipped paint and chipped wood inside at the entrance. - Popcorn and dirty tissues on the ground in one of the play rooms. - A soccer net, in the outdoor grass area, that has ripped in a couple of areas. The Manager informed Licensing that it will be removed. - The grass in the outdoor play area is grown high. - A lot of clutter on the kitchen counter-top with no space.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the community care facility and furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in care.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Four sharp nails sticking out in the bathroom where the toilet paper holder was. - An adult dirty glass cup, bowl and spoon sitting on one of the sleeping mats in the nap room. The Manager removed the items and placed them in the sink.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    Observation. Licensing observed all the beds and bedding touching one another in the nap room. The Manager informed Licensing that there was a party yesterday. Licensing discussed the importance of bedding being separate to mitigate the spread of germs.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a program is established to instruct children in and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Upon discussion, Licensing became aware that the Manager was completing the attendance record for the entire past week. Licensing discussed the importance of ensuring that attendance records are completed daily.

    Corrective action. Ensure that attendance records are accurate on a daily basis.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children in care; - a facial cleanser bottle on the bathroom counter. -hazardous gardening tools in an unlocked shed - a cleaning solution spray bottle in an unlocked bathroom cupboard. The Manager informed Licensing that the lock has broken. The Manager removed the cleaning spray bottle.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following:- - There is no longer any grass on half of the outdoor grass area. It is now muddy and not sufficient resilient surfacing. - The bleach and water spray bottle is not labelled. - several wooden drawers stacked on top of one another in the bottom cement outdoor area. - a plugged in vacuum cleaner sprawled on the nap room floor. - a medium sized photocopier sitting on the floor on three workout step stools in the nap room.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.
