    Observation. Licensing observed children being cared for in a room that has not received municipal, fire or licensing approval to safely operate. The manager had the children move to another licensed classroom and advised they would be there until the end of day.

    Corrective action. Children cannot be cared for in this room unless approved by municipal fire and licensing. The manager will provide licensing with a written plan.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed hanging cords in the preschool/ school age program and a rope strung to a sign at the bottom of one of the cribs.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there are no hanging or loose cords accessible to the children.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: > There were multiple areas of the facility that had visible wear and tear, holes and dirt build up. > There were multiple bicycle seats that were torn. > There were multiple sleeping mats in the toddler program that were torn.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility and equipment are clean and in good repair.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Children's nap beds are stored on top of eachother making the children's bedding touching.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children's bedding is kept stored separately.

    Licensees must not make any structural change to a community care facility unless the licensee first (b) receives written approval from the medical health officer.

    Observation. Walls have been removed in 30 months to school age Room E and the room is under construction. Licensing was not aware of these structural changes. In addition, the children have been moved to another room in the building. Licensing has not approved this room nor has Licensing received fire or municipal approval.

    Corrective action. The Manager is to provide fire and municipal approval for use of the room. Licensing will communicate outstanding requirements.

    Observation. One of the 30 months to school age programs is licensed for 14 children. However, Licensing was informed that during nap time, there have been up to 22 non-napping children in the program.

    Corrective action. The maximum capacity for each room cannot be exceeded at any time.

    Observation. Information is written in a child's registration form about a food sensitivity. However, the Manager and staff were not aware of this and advised that the child has never appeared to have this sensitivity. The information on the registration form was not updated to show current status.

    Corrective action. The Manager will inquire from the parents about the current status of the food sensitivity and the record will be updated for the child.

    Observation. Children are moved between programs during various times of the day but there is no record to show which room the children are in attendance.

    Corrective action. The Manager is to provide a compliance plan.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files. One staff had no record of character references and another staff had record of only one character reference. There needs to be a minimum of 2 character references for staff.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all staff have a min of 2 character references.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Children outdoors using an area for play located outside the fenced play yard, next to a parking lot. The area is not enclosed in a manner suitable for the age and development of children and has access to Dewdney Trunk Rd. - Multiple hanging cords in the 3-5 program accessible to children.

    Corrective action. The manager said the play area will no longer be used and the cords will be made inaccessible.
