  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The railings around the loft do not provide enough height to prevent older children falling over them. Cords on the blinds covering the window in the loft are accessible to children.

    Corrective action. The manager will raise the height of the railings or install another barrier in the loft and will ensure children do not have access to the cords on the blinds.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.

    Observation. There are no instructions for a child who requires medication at times.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure written instructions are provided by the child's parents in writing.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The facility fridge temperature was 8C. The change table had been moved from the bathroom to the laundry room and children are washing hands in the laundry tub. The tub is used to wash the family dog and is in need of cleaning. Baby gates on the upper floor of the home were not in place. Dog feces were in the back yard. Wooden boards, a disassembled swing set and a ladder are accessible to children in the yard. Bug spray is not being applied to a child according to the manufacturers directions. The bug spray is not to be used on children under the age of 12.

    Corrective action. The manger will ensure the fridge temperature is between 0-4c, baby gates are in place when care is being provided, all dog feces will be removed from the yard before care is provided, the laundry room will not be used to change diapers, remove the wooden boards, swing set and ladder and will not use the bug spray on a child.

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The swing set in the back yard is not secured into the ground and is unstable. There is not a minimum of six feet clearance in all directions around the swing set.

    Corrective action. The manger will ensure the swing set is secure and stable and that there is a minimum of six feet clearance around this equipment.

    A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,

    Observation. During this inspection six children under the age of 48 months were present. On review of children's files there are seven children enrolled full time under the age of 48 months. This is not allowable in Family Child Care. The manager stated she knew that she was operating in noncompliance.

    Corrective action. Ages of children in care must be in compliance with Section 34(2)(a) & Schedule E Child Care Licensing Regulation at all times. The manger will inform Licensing no later than 4pm on August 21, 2024 how she has addressed this contravention.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. There are not enough emergency supplies for all the children for 72 hours. The manager stated a new fire extinguisher had been purchased but the receipt was not available.

    Corrective action. The manager will add more supplies to the emergency kit and provide the receipt for the fire extinguisher to show it has been purchased in the last 12 months.

    Observation. Attendance records for August have not been completed. The manager stated she knew this was required although she did not record attendance.

    Corrective action. The manager will keep daily attendance records.

    Observation. Files for seven children were reviewed. The phone number for a medical clinic/doctor and an emergency contact person were not available for one child.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure all required information is in the child's file.

    Observation. An emergency drill or monthly drills have not been conducted.

    Corrective action. Please ensure an emergency drill is conducted a minimum of once every 12 months and that a fire drill is conducted each month.
