  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: -In the outdoor deck area, an L bracket holding the gutter to the wall had come loose, with sharp edges posing a potential injury risk. -In the kitchen area, paint had peeled off the walls in some sections at children’s height where a child-proof adhesive device had been used. - In the kitchen area where a door used to be, the lower hinge area has exposed wood with sharp edges. -In the nap room, crib railings had chipped paint exposing the wood underneath, making it difficult to sanitize. -The metal latch on the outdoor wooden entrance gate is rusted.

    Corrective action. Licensee will provide Licensing a plan to address the above items.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Doctor's information was not obtained for one child.

    Corrective action. Licensee said child’s file will be updated with this information.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

    Observation. Licensing officer reviewed three staff files; there was no evidence that character references had been verified.

    Corrective action. Licensing officer spoke with the Licensee by phone, who said that references will be verified and verification date will be documented in staff’s file.

    The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

    Observation. A care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

    Corrective action. The Manager said she will review it with the parent and keep a record of the review date.
