A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. - Licensing observed the following : - Children's play couch with a rip in it. This is a repeat contravention from #SMIA-DGLQ5S - Temperature in the fridge measured at 10C.

Corrective action. The manager said that a new couch has been ordered and she will monitor the temperature in the fridge

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Temperature in 3 children’s lunch bags containing food such as yogurt, cheese, meat measured 22.2°C. There were no ice packs in the lunch bags & two milk bottles were observed stored at room temperature.

Corrective action. Manager said that children's food will be stored at 0–4°C to ensure safe food storage.

Observation. During the inspection, Licensing observed that the play couch was ripped in one area, exposing the foam underneath and making it difficult to sanitize.

Corrective action. Manager said play couch will be repaired or replaced so that it can be easily sanitized.

A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Soiled diapers were disposed in an open diaper pail. The Manager corrected this during the inspection.

Corrective action. Manager said soiled diapers will be disposed in a covered diaper pail.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

Observation. The Manager did not obtain resume for the staff.

Corrective action. The Manager said staff's file will be updated with a current resume.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. One staff's ECEA certificate was not validated through the ECE Registry.Manager said it was vaildated but did not know evidence had to kept in staff file.

Corrective action. The Manager said staff's ECEA certificate will be validated, and the results will be kept in the staff's file.
