  • A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.

    Observation. Two children engaged in a physical incident during outdoor play, and while staff were present, they were not focused on the children and were unaware that it had occurred.

    Corrective action. The licensee has provided a plan to address the contravention. No further action is required.

  • STAFFING

    The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

    Observation. A criminal record check for a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present is not available.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will obtain a CRC.

    Observation. There were rodent droppings on the floor around the perimeter of the rooms and on a cubby shelf.

    Corrective action. The Licensee hired a pest control company in addition to extra cleaning and monitoring.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed the fire extinguishers had not been serviced annually. The fire extinguishers can still be used as the arrow is in the green. they expired March 29, 2024.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to service fire extinguishers annually.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed cords plugged into a powerbar. The powerbar was set on a low countertop and the cords were within the reach of children, causing potential for injury if a child were to pull the cords. A staff removed the cords from children's reach during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: Group - 30 months to school age program: - several damaged sleep mats with taped corners to repair; unable to adequately clean and santize Group - under 36 months program: - window ledges with peeling paint - fabric book shelf that appears to be soiled - peeling paint around the exterior door - base of the handwashing sink appears to have been damaged, causing it to be porous and no longer able to be cleaned and sanitized - areas of wear and tear on walls causing the gyprock to be exposed and no longer able to be cleaned and sanitized The licensee said that there are plans to replace the damaged sleep mats and to paint.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the community care facility, equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed tears in the large, vinyl covered foam blocks located in the group -under 36 months program, exposing the foam in some areas. The tears do not allow for the blocks to be cleaned adequately.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the equipment is clean and in good repair.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The manager's name was not displayed; however, the manager corrected this during the inspection.

    A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing noted the diaper disposal bin did not have a cover, a discussion was had with the Manager to ensure the bin is covered.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the diaper disposal bin has a cover.
