    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. At the time of the inspection the LO observed potential hazards to the children in care. - Debris on the outdoor play area (removed at the time of the inspection) - Small wadding pool with water in it accessible to children on the outdoor play area - Washroom sink where children wash their hands is damaged resulting in ineffective cleaning of the surface - Damaged walls throughout requires attention - Snack / craft table damaged resulting in ineffective cleaning of the surface - Snack / craft table also observed not clean or sanitized effectively These items were reviewed in depth at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure the community care facility, furniture, equipment, and fixtures are clean and in good repair.

    Observation. Children's lunch kits were observed not stored effectively at the time of the inspection. The LO reviewed the practices of using ice pack's or refrigeration to ensure effective storage of food items.

    Corrective action. One child in care does not have a care plan developed to support their needs. The LO reviewed with the Licensee the purpose, process and intent of a care plan at the time of the inspection. Care plans are required for all children that require additional support.

    Observation. The Licensee's CRC was not available at the time of the inspection. Additionally, criminal record check's for other person's over the age of 12 who are ordinarily present was also not available. The LO reviewed this item at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure CRC's are completed, valid and available on site at all times.

    Observation. DLSOP Family Child Care – Play material was not adequate to safely meet the varying developmental needs of the children receiving care. One child was playing with play dough and using a pair of scissors to cut the play dough. The scissors were sharp for his age ;and he was using sharp sticks without being supervised.

    Corrective action. Ensure all play material is suitable for the age of children in the group.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following items during inspection; -Empty glass containers on the kitchen counter that was accesible to children -Dirty blanket and a cloth sheet in the outdoor play area. -Patio umbrella was lying in the playground exposing the metal ribs. Licensee said that unbrella was blown away with the wind and they were going to clean the outdoor playarea before taking children out. There were no records or checklist indicating outdoor play area is inspected for any hazards before taking the children out.

    Corrective action. Ensure to provide a healthy and safe environment is provided when children are in attendance.

    Corrective action. Ensure to keep children's attendance records showing arrival and departure time and indicating whether the child was absent. Please revise the systems to ensure accurate attendance for school age care.

    Observation. Licensing observed that emergency exit was not clear. This is a repeated contravention. A traitor filled with old household items and garbage was parked in front of the emergency exit. The emergency exit gate was locked in a manner that could potentially be hazardous to evacuate immediately and safety in the event of emergency. Licensee stated that they will remove the traitor by the weekend.

    Corrective action. Ensure emergency exits are clear and approved within the meaning of fire Service Act.
