• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Large sharp knife was in an unlocked cupboard with a broken lock and is accessible to children.

  Corrective action. Fix cupboard and ensure dangerous objects are inaccessible to children.

• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. Staff did not instruct children to wash hands before snack.

  Corrective action. Ensure proper hand washing routine before meals.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. Two care plans was last reviewed in 2024 and not reviewed this year.

  Corrective action. Ensure all care plans are up to date and reviewed annually.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - a kitchen knife was in reach of children - bleach and cleaning solutions were in reach of children - medication was stored in a backpack, accessible to children

  Corrective action. Please ensure hazardous objects and substances are out of reach of children

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

  Observation. No written care plan is in place for a child who has been identified as needing support.

  Corrective action. The Manager stated they are in the early stages of developing a care plan for this child and has requested support from management and other agencies.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must keep (a) in the case of employees, all records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements] for the entire time that the subject of the records is an employee of the community care facility.

  Observation. There is a staff checklist that shows all documents are on file and up to date at head office. Two staff are on that checklist. The Manager stated that there are other staff that may work at the facility but they are not on the checklist.

  Corrective action. Manager stated that they will add the names of part time and casual staff that work at the facility to show their records are complete.
