• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Sandbox in outdoor play area did not have a sandbox cover. Potential hazard when rain water pools and accessible to children.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. Immunization status in a child's file was not obtained.

  Corrective action. Will contact parents and obtain updated immunization information.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Upon review of 5 staff files, 4 did not contain character references.

  Corrective action. Manager will add the character references to every staff file.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Updated validation was not obtained for 2 staff

  Corrective action. Manager will validate ECE certificates and add them to the file

• A licensee must ensure that children are adequately supervised by qualified employees in sufficient numbers to meet the needs of each child.

  Observation. Staff did not see a child get injured as they were not actively supervising the children.

  Corrective action. A corrective action plan has been submitted to licensing.

• The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. A care plan was not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent.

  Corrective action. A corrective action plan has been submitted to Licensing.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the emergency kit supplies did not have enough supplies in case of an emergency. There was some food and water but more items are needed. The manager said they will ensure that more supplies are added.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that there are enough emergency supplies per person for 72 hours in case of an emergency.
