- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following; - two tall wooden doll houses that are not secured. Potential to fall on a child and injure them. - not sufficient resilient surfacing in the outdoor play area under two climbing structures and slides. The Manager said that more woodchips have been ordered and should arrive within a week.
Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed the following; - paint chipping from the big outdoor wooden climbing and slide structure - garbage scattered in many areas of the outdoor play area. Had a discussion with the Manager regarding have a system in place to ensure that the outdoor area is clean and equipment in good repair.
Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - OR SUPERVISION
Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation. Upon discussion with the Manager, Licensing determined that from 4-5:45 there is no early childhood educator (ECE) in the program and that two ECEA close. Licensing provided education that the staff to child ratio for the service type being offered is an ECE present at all times.
Corrective action. Ensure that staff to child ratio is no less than that permitted in Schedule E
14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. Upon a review of a child's care plan, Licensing observed that it was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.
Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.
19260 - CCLR s.58(2)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. Upon a review of four staff files, Licensing observed that one staff's criminal record check (CRC) is addressed to another facility therefore, the staff's CRC has not been obtained.
Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

Observation. Licensing observed small carpets used by children during circle time that are frayed, have ripped tape on them and curling at the corners.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing by the Manager on how this contravention will be addressed.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed a couple of diaper rash creams in an unlocked bathroom drawer.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing by the Manager on how this contravention will be addressed.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following; - not sufficient resilient surfacing under one slide. - a tall fan in the nap room at the end of one sleeping mat that is not secured. Potential to fall on a child. - a stereo and speaker on a tall shelf, in the nap room, with its wires taped to the side of the shelf. However, the tape can easily be pulled off and potential for a child to pull on the wires and have the speakers and/or the stereo to fall on them. - couple of plastic bags in an unlocked washroom drawer. Potential suffocation hazard.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing by the Manager on how this contravention will be addressed.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation. Licensing observed that there are no paper towels or one time use clothes available in the boys washroom to dry their hands. The Manager said that the boys wash their hands and then go into the girls washroom down the hallway to dry their hands. Licensing discussed appropriate hand washing practices.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing by the Manager on how this contravention will be addressed.
15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.
Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher has expired and not been serviced.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing by the Manager on how this contravention will be addressed.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. Upon a random review three children's records, Licensing observed that immunization status was not obtained for one child.
Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing by the Manager on how this contravention will be addressed..

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation. Upon a random review of three children's records, Licensing observed that the date of enrolment was not obtained for one child.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation. Upon a random review of four staff records, Licensing observed that immunization status was not obtained for one staff.

Observation. Toddler toilet seat insert is cracked, exposing the foam beneath it. Does not allow it to be adequately cleaned and sanitized.
Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.
Observation. Facility does not have a covered garbage can to contain soiled diapers.
Corrective action. Please ensure a covered garbage can is available on site for soiled diapers.

Observation. -the wood within the play structure was wet due to rain and was quite slippery on some landings and can act as a slipping hazard. -There is a string hanging from a log which can be hazardous.
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment.

Observation. The following was observed: -Step to one of the emergency exits was duct taped due to disrepair and the tape is coming off. -A door on one of the play structures outside is cracked. -Blinds in the nap room are in need of cleaning

Observation. The following items were noted: -Nails exposed at the end of a wooden bench. -Peeling paint within the yellow tube of the play structure. -Broken tile on the stairway to the washroom. -Door that leads to the outdoor play space is starting to peel on the outside.
Corrective action. Please ensure furniture and equipment are clean and in good repair.
