  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. One staff file did not contain a CRC through the Criminal Records Review program, One file contained a CRC issued from the local police department. The manager stated that info has been submitted to the CRC review program for processing

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. LO observed and discussed the following with staff today: - Playground: all swing chains are rusty. - Cleaning supplies in 3-5 washroom: stored in an open shelving unit accessible to children.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (b) a wash basin.

  Observation. LO observed that diaper changing area is located in the cubbie area not in the washroom.

  Corrective action. Ensure that diaper changing area is set up in the washroom next to the sink.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. 5 children files were reviewed; 2 children's MSP # were missing.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all children files are complete.

  A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

  Observation. 5 children files were reviewed; 1 child was missing the consent to call medical practitioner or ambulance if parent cannot be reached.

  Corrective action. Ensure all children files are complete.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. 5 children files were reviewed; 2 children were missing their Dr's information.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all children files are complete.

  Observation. 3 staff files were reviewed; 1 staff's certificate was not validated through the ECE registry.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all staff files are complete.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. A minimum of two character references were not obtained for one staff member.

  Corrective action. Ensure that all staff files are complete.

  Observation. A review of 3 staff files found that 1 file was missing evidence that the person's ECE certificate had been verified by the early childhood education registry. It appears that this staff's ECE had been renewed but it had not yet been verified.

  Corrective action. Ensure all educator or assistant certificates have been verified by the early childhood educator registry.
