    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. One of the slides within the outdoor play space in GCC 3-5 program is in disrepair as there is a large crack within in. Additionally, on the play structure, there are some areas where the metal is exposed as the rubber surfacing has worn off.

    Corrective action. The facility has been in contact with the company who installed the play structure. They have plans to have a new slide installed and to address the exposed metal. In the meantime, the slide has been cordoned.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the fridge temperature in the Group Child Care (under 36 months) at -5 degrees Celsius on one thermometer and 5 degrees Celsius on the other thermometer. One staff changed the temperature to 4 degrees Celsius.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the fridge temperature is between 0 to 4 degrees Celsius.

    Observation. Upon a random review of two staff records, Licensing observed the following:- - One staff only has one reference on file. - One staff whose references have not been obtained. Licensing explained what would meet the intent of this regulation.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children; - 3 wading pools resting against the wall in the preschool and group child care (30mnths to school age) outdoor play area. - 3 epi-pens in the staff's backpack. The backpack is kept on a low shelf that children have access to. Licensing provided education that any medication needs to be stored out of children's reach.

    Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there was no record of the emergency drill being practiced in 2021. The Manager informed Licensing that a drill was practiced. Licensing provided education on recording all emergency drills implemented.

    Corrective action. Ensure that all fire and emergency drills are recorded.

    Observation. Upon a review of 11 staff records, Licensing observed two staff's Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) certificate have not been validated through the ECE registry. The Manager was unaware that assistant certificates need to be verified. Licensing provided education on what certificates need to be validated.

    Corrective action. Ensure that staff records are complete.

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: - The plastic slide, in Group Child Care (under 30 months) play area, is cracked and dented where the children climb up on stand. - A bouncy spring toy has areas of the wood and paint chipped on the seat.

    Corrective action. Ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

The Manager informed Licensing that the care plan book was taken by the support worker. Licensing provided education.
