    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. - A cloth cover is being used on the the diaper change mat in the Multi-age and I/T program. This surface cannot be cleaned and disinfected after every use.

    Corrective action. Ensure change pads are made of a material that can be cleaned and disinfected after every use.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. - 7 children in attendance in the Multi-age program but only 3 signed in. - Children being moved around from each program are not being signed in/out accurately.

    Corrective action. Ensure children and signed in/out daily and movements between each program are accurately recorded.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed in the GCC (30 mos to SA) program: - Bouncey castle was used in February inside the classroom. The Licensee contact said this was instead of going outside due to the snowfall. - No papertowel in the bathroom The following was observed in the Multi-Age program: - The corners of the metal fence posts in the playgroun are very sharp, posing a risk of injury - Insufficient clearance around the Little Tikes play slides - Stairs in the playground have sharp edges, posing a risk of injury - Mirrors appear to not be tempered glass, posing a risk of injury should it break

    Corrective action. Ensure there is a system to maintain a healthy and safe environment.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed in the GCC (under 36 mos) program: - Latch/locking system on 2 baby gates are broken - Baseboards chipped exposing wood - 3 cribs have chew marks on the railings. Tape has been placed on top to cover the area. The following was observed in the Multi-Age program: - Change pad torn - Door knobs missing on 2 doors - Train table showing signs of wear & tear

    Corrective action. Ensure there is a system to ensure the facility is in good repair.

    Observation. A random selection of children's files were available for review. Out of the 7 reviewed, 4 files did not contain care plans that were developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent.

    Corrective action. Ensure there is a system to develop care plans.

    In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (c) produce records, on demand, to the medical health officer.

    Observation. Licensing was informed staff and children files were kept in a locked cabinet. Staff were unable to locate the key for the cabinet. A selection of children's files were provided by the Licensee contact however no staff files were available for review.

    Corrective action. Ensure all records are available for review during an inspection.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed outside: -the liner in the sandbox in the Multi Age yard is ripping and the tarp covering the sandbox needs to be replaced The following was observed inside: -paint on the wall and pillars in the Infant and Toddler room are chipping

    Corrective action. The Manager explained she will be replacing the cover and addressing the ripped liner. The Manager explained she will be sanding and filling then painting the chipped areas.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The following was observed outside in the 3-5 yard: -one part of the chain link fence has detached from the piece at the bottom leaving it not secure and presents an entrapment and elopement area -there are exposed ends of the chain link that may cause injury -the gates are not secure as the poles are not secure and may cause injury -theft of toys and equipment have occurred due to the condition and height of the fence leaving insufficient toys and equipment for the children - strength and height of fence needs to be addressed

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all enclosures are safe and in good repair to ensure health and safety of children. Please provide a plan how you will ensure children are safe until this can be repaired.
