    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing observed all the outdoor play equipment and materials with mold and dirt on them.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention ha been addressed.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children; -a rusted nail sticking out of the wood under the stairs in the outdoor play area - Lysol wipe and spray on the ledge in the indoor play area - a air conditioning (AC) unit in the outdoor play area. The Licensee will install a gate to make the AC inaccessible.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention ha been addressed.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - 5-6 yellow crate like containers stacked on top of each in the outdoor play area. - a wooden shelf on top of the toilet that is not secured. Potential to fall on a child and injure them.

    Corrective action. A corrective action plan to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that children are not identified as absent. Licensing reviewed and clarified the intent of this regulation.

    Corrective action. Moving forward the Licensee will ensure that attendance records are accurate and record if a child is absent

    Observation. Upon discussion with the Licensee, Licensing determined that parents are not informed of the food and drink given to their child. Licensing discussed the importance of informing parents of what their child ate and drank. Suggestions provided on ways of informing the parents.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher was to be serviced by May 2024 but has not been serviced.

    Corrective action. A written response to be provided to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must ensure that the policies and procedures referred to in subsection (1) are implemented by employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed a child watching a show on the ipad for an hour. Upon a review of the screen time policy, Licensing observed that children were to only have 30 minutes of screen time. Licensing discussed policies to be updated if any changes made to them.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

    Observation. Upon a random review of two children's records, Licensing observed that there is a child who has several diagnoses however, no care plan available for a child requiring extra support. Licensing provided education on when a care plan is required.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

    Observation. Licensing observed that a criminal record check (CRC) for an individual, over the age of 12, who is ordinarily present is not available. Education provided to the Licensee on the age of when a CRC is required.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. There are 3 rat traps that are accessible within the designated outdoor play space.

    Corrective action. Licensee stated that they normally play at the park nearby but they would move the traps to an inaccessible area. Please provide written response to indicate how you have addressed this contravention on or before November 30, 2023

    Observation. A criminal record check for a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present is not available.Tenants arrived at the beginning of November and they have not yet applied for their criminal record checks. (repeat)

    Corrective action. Licensee stated that they would get in touch with FHA Health Protection main office to arrange for application of criminal record checks. Please provide a response to Licensing advising the progress of these CRC on or before November 30, 2023

Licensee stated that the tenant arrived in mid November and they applied for a criminal record check when they arrived. Criminal record check has not yet been received. LO explained that the CRC must be from the Ministry, not the RCMP. Licensee stated will not be left alone with the children.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all people who are ordinarily present have a criminal record check.
