  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. - there was a dirty diaper laying on the step stool in the washroom - there is a ladder leaning against the house next to the stairs going to the back deck - the gate at the bottom of the steps was not in place - one of the cubbies on wheels is quite wobbly and poses a toppling hazard - there was a sharp tool on top of the fire pit accessible to children

  Corrective action. A corrective action plan will be submitted

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): There were cleaning supplies and an air freshner in an unlocked cupboard in the washroom

  Corrective action. The Manager locked the cupboard.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. Departure time was not recorded for June 11, daily attendance was not recorded for June 12 and arrival times were not recorded today. This is a repeat contravention.

  Corrective action. The Manager stated they got busy and didn't record the attendance. Discussed the importance of doing this at the time a child arrives and leaves.

  Observation. The following was observed outside in the play area: -there are nuts that have fallen in the yard from the large tree which can present as a choking hazard -some garbage is strewn throughout the yard -the stairs to the upper deck is accessible to children

  Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.

  Observation. As observed on the attendance, there have been 4 children attending under the age of 3 years old since June 1, 2023 including today.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that there are only 3 children under the age of 3 years old attending at one time.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. Attendance had not been taken since June 12, 2023.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that daily attendance is taken for every child.

  Observation. The following was observed in the nap room used by children: -a large,tall, free standing shelf that is holding books and a television that is not secure -a storage cupboard not secured to the wall

  Corrective action. Please ensure that any large, tall furniture is made secure to prevent injury if it tips over.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. The following was observed in the backyard used by children: -old fence posts in a pile that have rusty nails protruding from them -there is a nut tree in the backyard that is dropping nuts everywhere onto the ground - children have access to them -bits of garbage strewn around the yard

  Corrective action. Please ensure the backyard is a safe environment for children. A system should be established to maintain a checklist to ensure that the backyard is safe.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. 7 children's files were reviewed and 2 are missing gender and medical insurance plan number.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete prior to them attending the facility.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. A child in care requires a detailed written care plan outlining how to respond in the event that the child needs medication.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a care plan is developed with the parents outlining information and steps to be taken in the event the child requires medication.
