    Observation. Outdoor play area has gravel as protective ground surfacing. There was insufficient gravel under the slide to prevent injuries.

    Corrective action. Licensee will shovel the gravel to cover area under the climber/slide.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following were noted at today's inspection: -Multiple broken toys and debris within the outdoor play area. -Rough metal from a broken umbrella pole on a water table. -Lifted wood floor board at the daycare entrance. -Broken chalk board easel within outdoor play space.

    Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. Hot water was measured at 55 Degrees Celsius.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

    Observation. No care plan available for a child requiring extra support. Information on the child's registration form indicates that a care plan is required, however, no medication was provided by the parent and facility has not met with the parents to discussed the course of action.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a detailed care plan is created for children who may require extra support.

    Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one employee.

    Corrective action. Please ensure staff files are complete.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.     Observation. Multiple staff were missing proof of verification of their Certificates through the ECE Registry.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that staff Certificates, including recently renewed Certificates are verified through the ECE Registry and proof of verification is provided in order to confirm compliance.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. While on site, the following was noted: -Wood table with a leg that is in disrepair. -Wood tables that are not easy to clean as they have many dents and pits. -Blinds had recently been put down and were visibly dirty, Licensee indicated that they would be throwing them out and replacing them with curtains. -Bathroom walls have visible dirty and are in need of a good wipe down.

    Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

    Observation. Upon review of staff files, there was no notation to indicate the staff Certificates were verified through the ECE Registry. Licensee indicated that they had tried to do this last week but the site was down.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that ECE and ECEA Certificates are verified and proof of verification is shown in order for Licensing to confirm compliance.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. -There is a thorny blackberry bush that is overgrown and is growing into playground, accessible to the children in care. -There is limited shade available within the outdoor play space in the late afternoon. Manager stated that they do play in the forested area outside of the outdoor play space, however, LO noted that even during certain times of the day there is limited shade in this area as well.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment.

    Observation. The following were noted: -A wood play structure is in disrepair with missing roof slats, exposed nails, broken off wood boards. -Wood perimeter around the play space is loose or in disrepair. -A piece of wood and broken part of play structure accessible. -Noted some peeling paint by the exit to the outdoor play space. -Mat with a lifted edge at exit to outdoor play space.

    Corrective action. Please ensure furniture and equipment is clean and in good repair.
