(Educator or assistant certificate validation)

    Observation. Licensing reviewed five staff files. None of these files contained documentation to confirm that the Early Childhood Educator licenses have been verified by the Early Childhood Educator Registry.

    Corrective action. The Manager confirmed that staff files would be reviewed to ensure this documentation is complete.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was observed outdoors: -Wet/used tissues scattered throughout the I/T space. The Manager picked up the tissues during the inspection and identified that an outdoor garbage can was provided but was now missing. -A large metal boat with jagged edges in the I/T space which could pose risk of an injury. -Unsecured ropes hanging from the tree in the open area which could pose a risk of entanglement/strangulation. -The fence on the west side of the multi-age space has become quite wobbly and there is active construction on the other side. The following was observed indoors: -A large shelf in the school age room that is not secured to the wall which could pose a risk of injury in the event it falls over.

    Corrective action. The Manager stated that the items noted above would be addressed and a written response will be submitted to Licensing.

Licensing observed the following; Infant Room Inside- Plastic bags stored in a low cabinet, without a lock in the children's washroom Infant Room Outside- Rusty kitchen toys secured to the "playwall" Multi- Age Room Inside- Diaper cream and spray airfreshner accessible to children as well as a high shelf (for lunch kits) that is not secured to the wall 30 months to School Age Room Inside- Plastic bags stored in a wall mounted holder inside the washroom (assessable to children) as well as a high shelf (for lunch kits) not secured to the wall

    Corrective action. Please ensure a safe and healthy environment while children are in care.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - a number of tables and chairs with very worn surfaces. These tables and chairs are used for both art/play and meal times. The exposed/porous surfaces make these tables unable to be properly cleaned and sanitized. - one high self is not secured to the wall and poses a risk to children in care
