Observation. The fire extinguisher required to be serviced.
Corrective action. The Licensee said she will service it by Monday.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation. The Licensee's renewed ECE certificate was not validated.
Corrective action. Please ensure certificates are validated every time they are renewed.

- STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Licensing reviewed one staff file and observed that there was one record of a character reference, when there needs to be two character references.
Corrective action. Please ensure you obtain a minimum of two character references from individuals prior to their employment.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation. During inspection in the nap room Licensing observed a playpen layered with a sleep mat covered with a loose fitted sheet. Size of the sleep mat was longer in length than the playpen's inner surface area. A tear was observed on one side in the lower section of the playpen lining .Manager mentioned that this playpen will be no longer be used and will be replaced with a spare playpen available at the facility.
Corrective action. A Licensee at all times must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Duct tape used for covering one electrical wire on the floor is peeling off at the edges exposing the wire underneath.
Corrective action. Please ensure that the electrical wire is inaccessible to children.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Plastic bags and toilet cleaning brush are stored in a cupboard accessible to children.
Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. During inspection manager put a child proof lock on the cupboard.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. Licensing reviewed three staff files and two staff person does not have a CRC completed through the criminal record review agency in Victoria. Both staff person currently has a clear criminal record check from the RCMP on file at the facility.
Corrective action. Please ensure all staff persons have a criminal record check through the criminal records review branch in Victoria.
12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation. Licensing reviewed three staff files and one staff person has no evidence of immunization.
Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the care facility.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation. Licensing reviewed three staff files and certificates of two staff person has not been validated. The manager was not aware that certificates need to be validated. Licensing provided education that whenever a certificate is renewed it needs to be validated through the Early Childhood Educator Registry.
Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the care facility.
